Sephora vs. Ulta: Which is the best beauty store?

What You Get When You Shop at...

Decent Tiered Rewards Program

The VIB Insider, VIB, and VIB Rouge tiers at Sephora are all correspondent to how much you have spent at Sephora during the last year. With your accumulated rewards points, you can redeem items from small, 100-point trial sizes and deluxe samples to the ones like the $100 Sephora gift card that you really have to save up for but it does feel so nice when you finally reach the right amount of points to be able to redeem some of the bigger/pricier stuff!

Luxury Products at a Luxury Price

Sephora offers more luxury and designer brands of beauty products, but they of course come at that high luxury pricetag as well. Just something to keep in mind!

Good Customer Service & Return Policy

Sephora is known for their lenient and lax return policy where you can feel free to return any used (to any degree!) or unused item by mail or to a Sephora store if you feel unsatisfied with it. Their employees in-store also always seem to be happy to help and knowledgable about their field, so it's always a treat to shop at Sephora whether you're going online shopping or going to a physical Sephora store.

What You Get When You Shop at...

Seemingly Endless Product Selection

Ulta offers countless brands, both drugstore-tier as well as prestige, in each of their stores and even more if you choose to shop online. Some of the brands sold at Sephora are even sold at Ulta too, so you can really pick and choose where you want to do your shopping and which rewards program you want to try to build up.

Beauty Services, Not Just Products

When you go to an Ulta store, you can find not only a multitude of beauty products for sale, but also beauty services such as hair cuts and styling, eyebrow waxing and tweezing, and more! And you know you can trust the Ulta employees to know about beauty and how to best serve you, cause that's literally all they do!

Rewards Points Redeemable for Actual Money Off Your Purchase

Ulta's rewards program is notably different from Sephora's in that you can redeem actual dollar amounts off of your purchases with your rewards points (whereas at Sephora, you typically redeem actual beauty product or samples).

Sephora vs. Ulta: Which is the better beauty store, in my opinion...?

While I’ve met and talked to many people who greatly prefer one beauty store over another, and even sometimes swear off making beauty purchases anywhere else besides their first choice, I’m someone who likes options and I can appreciate the benefits of both Sephora and Ulta. I shop pretty much equally at both stores, although sometimes it may seem skewed towards Sephora just because I’m sure I’ve spent a higher dollar amount there over the years since Sephora’s product offering is mostly high-end and luxury, whereas Ulta has many affordable options as well as some high-end. Ultimately, in my opinion, they’re both really great stores to do your beauty shopping at and I’m happy to have them both at my disposal!

That said, if you have a favorite between the two stores, I’d love to hear which one you prefer and why! Definitely be sure to let me know your thoughts in the comments – thank you in advance!!! 🥰
